Do you have an accurate handle on why your last 5 staff left? Without knowing you, I can guess why and suggest some quick remedies, but more on that later. Even if you conduct exit interviews you may not gain complete transparency, as the number one reason for attrition is likely to be you! If you say that people are your most important asset and you have a great product or service then you may benefit from some simple (and some not so simple) suggestions below.
2011 is going to see the arrival of the most significant phenomena to affect the workforce since Henry Ford decided that labour specialisation was the key: the retiring of the baby boomers.
The Foundation were chuffed to attend Autex's most recent Charity Golf Day at Titirangi Golf Course. Fielding a team for the Ambrose Tournament was a struggle for Jeremy, being arguably one of the worlds worst golfers!
I’m an Aucklander who has to travel into the city everyday for work. As I need a car to attend meetings around our wonderfully connected city I keep a carpark in the central city (I'd rather not btw - its painfully expensive!). This involves driving through numerous streets that have been massaged into allowing our version of mass-transit – The Bus - to have a dedicated space – The Bus Lane. I’m keen to point out early (before you switch off) that I’m not going to whine about this phenomenon – it’s the only solution to our forefathers lack of transport foresight; anyone who is waving the rail flag needs to take us to a city that has made a rail retrofit work. Or shot. For a modern sprawling city its eye-wateringly expensive to install and run and is contained to very small corridors. Stepping off my soap-box my parting comment is that we are destined to co-exist on our roads and it needs to work for all motorised vehicles. Until the oil runs out and we can use them for open-air bowling lanes.
I’ve just returned from a 3 week jaunt in South America – Chile and Argentina. Our base and the core portion of the holiday was spent with our good friends Hamish and Sarah in Santiago (thanks again guys!). Hamish has set up and runs a loyalty business in Chile and as a result is enjoying what all successful people in that part of the world do – having a live-in maid.
I love hi-fi (not those all-in-one music systems, but rather your separate components with chrome feet and massive cables). I have been a big fan of it since I purchased my first system as a university student. I still remember it; a Pioneer A 337 Amplifier and a Philips CD502 CD player. Whilst that system has been phased out (regrettably I traded in the Amp about 15 years later - it was a cracker, I should've kept it!) I have been hooked on buying and trading various components ever since.
As a salesperson it can be extremely difficult to make the time to prospect but it is our most important core activity and vital to our success. Often it is easy to get stuck in a rut and keeping yourself motivated is a big struggle! So get motivated by results – if you’re having success then you’re going to enjoy it right? Try this planned and structured approach – it works, trust me!
Interviews at the best of times can send your nerves into overdrive! We know as sales people, the more knowledge you have about your service or product, the better prepared you are to provide a solution and gain a successful sale. Adopt this approach to interviews and clearly visualise an end result...a positive outcome and a new refreshing & rewarding opportunity!
I engaged Jeremy to fill two senior sales roles in 2010. Both candidates are working very well in my business. His knowledge of and networks in our industry made the process very simple and ensured that I only saw qualified and suitable candidates.
